Chris Pfefferkorn has more than 20 years of experience working in zoos with a variety of animals and has a strong background in animal management. He worked with elephants as a keeper for three years, and helped design and oversee construction of an elephant barn at the San Antonio Zoo. Pfefferkorn came to the Oregon Zoo in 1997.
As Deputy Director, he manages the Living Collections, Veterinary, Volunteer, Conservation, Education and Research divisions. In 1999, he was part of the team that brought Chendra, an orphaned Borneo elephant, to the zoo. He recently served on the AZA’s Wildlife Conservation Management Committee, which oversees the captive animal programs in North American zoos.
